Knitting Needles: 12.75mm [US 17] and 9mm [US 13].
Yarn needle; 1 horn pin.
GAUGES: 7 stitches = 4”; 14 rows = 4”in Garter stitch with larger needles; 9 stitches = 4”; 12 rows = 4” in St st with smaller needles.
CHECK YARN OVERUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauges.

STOLE
With larger needles, cast on 9 stitches. Work in Garter stitch (K every row) until 4¾” from beginning.
Next Row: Knit 1, [yarn over, K1] 8 times – 17 stitches.
Next Row: Knit 1, [K1tbl, K1] 8 times.
Knit 2 rows even.

Next Row: Knit 1, [yarn over, K1] 16 times – 33 stitches.
Next Row: Knit 1, [K1tbl, K1] 16 times.
Work even until 57” from beginning.
Next Row: Knit 1, [K2tog] 16 times – 17 stitches.
Knit 2 rows even.
Next Row: Knit 1, [K2tog] 8 times – 9 stitches.
Work even for 4¾”. Bind off.
HAT
With smaller needles, cast on 40 stitches. Work in St st, begin K row, for 2”, end P row.
Increase Row (Wrong Side): [K3, K in front and back loop of next stitch] 10 times – 50 stitches.
Work even in St st until 9½” from beginning, end P row.
Next Row: [K2tog] 25 times – 25 stitches.
Next Row: P1, [P2tog] 12 times – 13 stitches.
Next Row: [K2tog] 6 times, K1 – 7 stitches. Cut yarn leaving an 18” end. Weave end through remaining stitches, draw up firmly, fasten securely. Sew back seam noting that Purl side is the right side of the fabric.
