Row 4: [Knit 1, purl 1] across to last stitch, knit 1.

Repeat Rows 1-4 for Moss stitch.

Knitting Patterns Cabled Poncho BACK

With larger needles, cast on 97 stitches.

Next Row (Wrong Side): Knit. Beginning with Row 1, work in Moss St for 6 rows, end with a wrong side row. Shape Sides Decrease 1 stitch each side every 4th row 14 times – 69 stitches. Work 1 row.

Shape Shoulders Bind off 4 stitches at beginning next 8 rows – 37 stitches. Decrease 1 stitch each side every row 4 times – 29 stitches. Slip remaining stitches to a stitch holder for Neck.

Knitting Patterns Cabled Poncho FRONT

With larger needles, cast on 98 stitches.

Next Row (Wrong Side): Knit 37, [M1, knit 4] 6 times, knit 37 – 104 stitches.

Row 1 (Right Side): Beginning with Row 1, work [knit 1, purl 1] across 34 stitches for Moss stitch, purl 2, work Cable Panel across 32 stitches, purl 2, work [knit 1, purl 1] across 34 stitches for Moss stitch. Work in patterns as established, omitting extra stitch of Moss stitch, for 6 rows. Shape Sides Decrease 1 stitch each side every 4th row 14 times – 76 stitches. Work 1 row.

Shape Shoulders and Neck Mark center 22 stitches for Neck. Bind off 4 stitches at beginning of next 8 rows, then decrease 1 stitch each side edge every row 4 times.

At Same Time, work to marked 22 center stitches, join second ball of yarn and work center 22 stitches and slip to a stitch holder for Neck, work to end of row. Working both sides at same time with separate balls of yarn and continuing to work Shoulder decreases as established, decrease 1 stitch from each Neck edge every row 7 times.

FINISHING

Sew Shoulder and side seams.

Collar: With right side facing and smaller circular needle, join yarn at left Neck edge and pick up and knit 12 stitches down left Front Neck edge, knit 22 from Front stitch holder, decrease 3 stitches evenly across, pick up and knit 12 stitches up right Front Neck edge, knit 29 from Back stitch holder – 72 stitches. Work in Knit 2, purl 2 rib for 4”.

Bind off. Weave in ends.
