- Batting is used for heat resistance. This will provide more padding and protection from hot surfaces, however, two layers of crocheted cotton are typically thick enough for short-term protection (from oven to stove top). Cotton Batting can be found in any store that sells fabric.
- 100% cotton yarn (and batting) is required. Acrylics can melt if they become too hot.
- A yard of fabric (batting) = 36 inches high, 1/4 yard of fabric = 9 inches high, but the width is 54 inches wide and batting doesn’t have a specific cutting direction.
- Beginning chains do not count as stitches.
- For the first 5 rows (red scarf) use a loose tension to avoid pulling and puckering once you add the body. If you have difficulty loosening your tension, use a J/10/6.00mm crochet hook for these rows.

Finishing
- Lay large panel flat and lay batting over the bottom edge (white edge).
